New online OPSEU resources for Stewards!
Congratulations to everyone who has been elected and accepted the position as an OPSEU Local Steward or if you are thinking about becoming one. Local 555 is in need and looking for members interested in becoming stewards to serve our almost 400 members in our local. The work you do is crucial to the running of the union, and improving the lives and working conditions of workers across the province. We need the assistance!
Stewards play a central part in building stronger unions. They have two fundamental roles: they make sure working conditions reflect the collective agreement, and they connect the membership to each other and to the union. Every person who takes on the mantle of “Steward” brings their own set of skills and experiences to the role. As a Steward, you have rights under your Collective Agreement and under Labour Law. As a Steward, you will represent people you know, and work with everyday. For these co-workers, you are their link to OPSEU.

They are each designed to take just 15 minutes of your time. The presentations include an overview of how to get started, the Steward’s role as a grievance handler, point person, and organizer, as well as OPSEU’s structure, labour issues, and more.
